The New Brunswick Agricultural Council (NBAC) was created in 1997 to implement the federally sponsored Canadian Adaptation and Rural Development (CARD) fund programs in the province of New Brunswick. In 2004, it was assigned by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada the responsibility of implementing the New Brunswick share of the Advancing Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food (ACAAF) Program and in 2006; it was designated to administer the Biofuels Opportunities for Producer Initiative (BOPI). More recently, the NBAC has started to administer the regional and the multiregional component of the Canadian Agricultural and Adaptation Program (CAAP) in NB.

The vision, mission and mandate of the NBAC are as follows:

Vision:

A progressive and sustainable agri-food value chain generating rural prosperity in NB

Mission:

To facilitate the sustainable development and advancement of the NB agriculture and agri-food industry by providing leadership and strategic investments

Mandate:

To serve as a medium for planning and addressing issues and opportunities for the advancement of all components of the NB agriculture and agri-food value chain

To serve as the mechanism for the efficient delivery of programs and other accessible resources
